Bio

Derwood Bowen

Ever since his dad introduced him to the song "Surfin' Bird" by The Trashmen when he was in first grade, silliness and humor have always been very integral in the life of Derwood Bowen.  When he discovered Dr. Demento's Radio Show in 7th grade, he discovered he had a deep interest in comedy music altogether, and knowing how much he loved singing, knew that he wanted to do this himself and share his humor with others and make them smile and laugh.

In December, 2004, he put down money to get a cheap keyboard and cheap microphone for the computer, and began writing and recording his own comedy songs.  This led to a music path that has seen him performing at conventions since 2007, growing as an artist, and directly connecting with fans wherever he goes.  Drawing influences not only from comedy/parody artists like "Weird Al" Yankovic and those who contribute songs to the FuMP, but also from more experimental bands like Ween and The Butthole Surfers, Derwood creates music that is not only comedic, but also covers a variety of genres, and he continues to expand his musical diversity and interests.

Derwood is currently working on a new album that, while retaining everything that makes his album his, also has a couple adventures in songwriting maturity in which he plans to do things he hasn't really done before with his music, something he plans on doing continually throughout his career.  He not only plans to create something new for his fans each time, but also aspires to create a community of fans whose musical interests are diverse, but who can share their interests and appreciate the wide diversity that music has to offer.
